2016 Caiarossa Toscana Rosso IGT

This wine is a blend of seven grapes - 42% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 15.5% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Sangiovese and 1% Alicante. In this vintage, the percentage of Cabernet Franc is slightly higher than usual, but I'm told there will be more Syrah in the 2018 edition instead. The bouquet presents a lovely first wave of dark fruit, pushing the boundaries of ripeness but certainly staying in the realm of elegance. The flavors are balanced and focused with blackberry, cassis and slight hints of salty or rusty minerals. The wine is not too contrived or big in the mouth, but shows a delicate level of elegance that absolutely rounds out the wine.
