Jose Maria da Fonseca is the traditional house in Portugal. Founded in 1834, it is now run by the seventh generation. The family business was already selling most of its production in bottles in the mid-19th century and exporting it all over the world. The name Fonseca has become the epitome of tradition and the highest quality standards.
The estate is located in Azeitao, on the Setúbal peninsula, around 40 kilometers south of Lisbon. The traditional wine of this region is the noble sweet Moscatel de Setúbal. Fonseca has turned this wine into a product that is now one of the world's top dessert wines. The Moscatel wines in Fonseca's cellars are well over a hundred years old.
