The 2003 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell Annunziata is the most forward of Scavino's 2003s. The aromatics are just beginning to enter an early plateau of maturity, though there is more than enough suppleness and depth to allow the Rocche to drink well for another handful of years. Sweet tobacco, cedar and dried flowers mingle on the resonant finish. Though the balance here is impeccable, the Rocche shows most evidence of the warm year in its lightly cooked, toasted flavors.
