The 2004 #3 Traminer Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague offers an intriguing nose of alkaline brine, faded rose, honey and celery seed that makes you think a bit of an older wine. Relatively firm on the entry, this Traminer fills the mouth with subtle mint, rose, lychee and celery seed without being as extroverted as one would expect from the varietal or from this level of overripeness. The exuberance is held back for the finish, where a concentration of mint, cinnamon and celery seed comes through impressively, though residual sweetness has the last word.

Weinlaubenhof Kracher is located in the "Seewinkel" in the Austrian Burgenland. There, where the evaporation on the lake, the evening mists and the warm Pannonian climate constantly prevail humid-warm weather changes, Botrytis cinerea, the basis for fantastic sweet wines such as Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen, develops.

From the grape varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel and now and then Zweigelt, Alois Kracher created 10 to 15 different Trockenbeerenauslesen in two different vinification styles every year.

"Between the Lakes" is the name of those wines that are aged in large wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks and display the classic style of the region. The wines of the "Nouvelle Vague" line are vinified in new barriques. They are characterized by depth, spice and sustainability.

Gerhard Kracher now continues to run the winery with the same dedication and dynamism as his father.

The product range of what is undoubtedly Austria's best-known winery includes not only the world-famous Trockenbeerenauslesen, but also Beerenauslesen, Auslesen, Eiswein and small quantities of dry white and red wines.
