The Klostersatz vineyard is located in the eastern Wachau in the Danube bend between Loiben and Dürnstein. The soil profile is characterized by fine sand in the topsoil and gravel in the subsoil.
Tasting notes: Attractive greenish yellow; pronounced aromas on the nose, red apple and a smoky-salty note. Balanced and elegant interplay of fruit and acidity on the palate, long-lasting and powerful on the finish. THE TENSION OF THE NEW, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GENERATIONS.
How can a young winery have more than 100 years of experience? Through the power of the family. Simon Gattinger is the fourth generation to vinify wine in the middle of the Loibner Kellergasse and draws from this knowledge - an invaluable value, Simon knows. The Gattinger family’s winemaking tradition began in 1912 with great-grandfather Anton. Then grandfather Leopold and later father Leo took over, who over the years focused exclusively on grape production.
The passion has always been there, then came knowledge and inspiration through studies and internships. Together with the desire to build something new in the Wachau, this was the perfect mix. The historic cellar was converted into a modern plant on three levels in 2022 - where only the gravity of the must finds its way into the cellar. Some say it is sustainable: Simon wants to use the knowledge of generations to vinify wines with a future.
Just as Simon sees his home.
The Junior, one of the most renowned wine regions in Austria, is world famous for their elegant Green Veltliner and Rieslings. Located along the Danube, the Wachau with its steep terrace layers, primeval stone floors and the unique climate offers perfect conditions for characterful wines with a pronounced minerality.
The region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also impresses with its picturesque wine towns such as Dürnstein, Spitz and Weißenkirchen. The Wachau combines excellent viticulture with a breathtaking landscape and is a must for wine lovers.
