Silvaner is one of the oldest white grape varieties. It was the basis for numerous new varieties, such as Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau and Scheurebe. Until the 1970s, Silvaner was still the most widely cultivated grape variety, until it was finally replaced by Müller-Thurgau. Silvaner is considered an all-rounder for almost every occasion. Grüner Silvaner, as it is officially called, is one of the most important white grape varieties in Germany.
