At 5.5% alcohol (and 375 grams of residual sugar), the 2005 #10 Chardonnay Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague is one of those barely vinous experiences that pop up from time to time at this address. Pear nectar, candied lemon, lily blossoms, strawberry jam, brown spices and truffle-like, indescribably noble notes of pure botrytis make their way out of the glass and then saturate the palate. Rust residents like to say that Ausbruch is baroque. This T.B.A. is downright baroque in its combination of opulence and complexity, exhibitionism and intimacy. You can spend a long time visiting the places this wine wants to take you, and the juicy clinginess with which they leave their mark is positively uncanny.

The Weinlaubenhof Kracher is located in the "Seewinkel" in the Austrian Burgenland. Here, where the evaporation from the lake, the evening mists and the warm Pannonian climate cause constant warm and humid weather changes, Botrytis cinerea grows, the basis for fantastic sweet wines such as Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen.

From the grape varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel and occasionally also Zweigelt Alois Kracher creates 10 to 15 different Trockenbeerenauslese wines each year in two different styles.

"Zwischen den Seen" is the name given to those wines that are matured in large wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks and display the classic style of the region. The wines in the "Nouvelle Vague" line are vinified in new barriques. They are characterized by depth, spice and sustainability.

Gerhard Kracher now runs the winery with the same dedication and dynamism as his father.

In addition to the world-famous Trockenbeerenauslese wines, the range of the undoubtedly best-known Austrian winery also includes Beerenauslese, Auslese, ice wine and small quantities of dry white and red wine.
