2016 Belle Vue Le Petit Verdot

This new cuvée from Belle-Vue is produced on a 2.04 hectare parcel. Made from 100% Petit Verdot, this wine comes from old vineyards planted in 1936, 1940 and 1950 with an average age of 77 years in 2016. It was aged in French oak, 20% new, with 15% of the production aged in amphorae. It was aged for a total of 14 months. Belle-Vue's 2016 Le Petit Verdot is deep garnet-purple in color and opens with provocative earthy notes on the nose reminiscent of fertile loam, tar and scorched earth, with a core of red and black currants and hints of wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied with a firm, grainy texture of beautifully ripe tannins, it has a big core of expressive fruit and a long, mineral finish.
