The Karthäuserberg is an outstanding location above Laubenheim and forms a basin open to the southwest. In this amphitheater-like setting, the heat is well absorbed and stored in the weathered red sandstone soil. As a result, the grapes here always ripen ahead of time and produce calm, powerful, spicy and fruity Rieslings with a firm structure and restrained acidity. The vineyard owes its name to its owners in the late Middle Ages, the taciturn Carthusian monks.
