2009 Cote Rotie La Landonne

Glassy purple. Explosive aromas of dark berries, fresh violets and anise, with a hint of smoke in the background. Juicy and incisive on the palate, with deep, spicy cassis and bitter cherry flavors accented by bitter herbs. Closes extremely long, with a firm tannic grip and seductive sweetness, leaving a zesty mineral note. Shows a surprising level of elegance for the vintage and for this bottling, which is usually the most forbidding of Guigal's great Cote-Roties.
