2021 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard Napa-Carneros

The 2021 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard takes some coaxing to unleash notes of ripe yellow apples, grapefruit oil, orange peel and juicy peaches that lead to hints of wet slate, shaved ginger and almond croissant. On the palate, the Chardonnay is medium-bodied, offering layer upon layer of citrus, stone fruit and mineral flavors with a silky texture and laser-precise acidity that finishes with incredible length and plenty of citrus and mineral sparks. This is a phenomenal Chardonnay! The Hyde Vineyard vines were planted in 1986. "Hyde was the first to do custom viticulture and they do it very well," comments Andy Smith, DuMOL's winemaker. "Shoot growth in 2021 was very low and yields dropped from the usual 21 barrels to 17 barrels. But I think this is the best quality they've ever had from here." I agree with that.
