Aromas of pink grapefruit, honey and cassis pour from the glass of the 2005 #9 Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese Zwischen den Seen. Lush, noticeably thick and creamy in texture, this Scheu-Elixir varietal nonetheless underscores the sheer vibrancy and lively freshness of citrus and berries of which the variety is capable. Its 309 grams of residual sugar leave a considerable sweetness (even with 10.2 grams of acidity), yet the palate remains refreshed and eager for the next sip. This is hardly the most complex cracker T.B.A., but still one of the most striking. Expect it to take on further dimensions with time - and I'm sure it will thrive for a quarter century.

The Weinlaubenhof Kracher is located in the "Seewinkel" in the Austrian Burgenland. Here, where the evaporation from the lake, the evening mists and the warm Pannonian climate cause constant warm and humid weather changes, Botrytis cinerea grows, the basis for fantastic sweet wines such as Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen.

From the grape varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel and occasionally also Zweigelt Alois Kracher creates 10 to 15 different Trockenbeerenauslese wines each year in two different styles.

"Zwischen den Seen" is the name given to those wines that are matured in large wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks and display the classic style of the region. The wines in the "Nouvelle Vague" line are vinified in new barriques. They are characterized by depth, spice and sustainability.

Gerhard Kracher now runs the winery with the same dedication and dynamism as his father.

In addition to the world-famous Trockenbeerenauslese wines, the range of the undoubtedly best-known Austrian winery also includes Beerenauslese, Auslese, ice wine and small quantities of dry white and red wine.
