Approaching its 20th year, the 2002 Haut-Brion is starting to drink very well. It opens in the glass with aromas of black currants, plums, cigar wrapper, loamy earth, embers and violets. After an hour or two in the decanter, it becomes noticeably fuller, lively and concentrated, embodying the ideal of intensity without heaviness, with a deep core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. The 2002 Haut-Brion is an underrated wine that rewards patience and confirms that great terroirs perform better in cooler, more challenging years. Ideal drinking date: 2020 - 2045.
