Even before the first sip, spicy, peppery notes rise to the nose and, in combination with the pronounced alcohol attack, almost promise a cognac or whiskey-like drinking experience. But thankfully it doesn't get that intense - as you drink, the classic cassis and blackberry notes of Merlot come through, and a deft residual acidity still keeps it nice and dry. As a skilful finish, velvety integrated tannins and chilli notes dance spicily down the throat.
