2000 Secundum Vintage Port

In 1999, Niepoort created a second type of vintage port: the "Secundum Vintage". The goal of Secundum is to create a more approachable Vintage that can be enjoyed immediately, but has a balance that allows it to evolve positively over decades. Compared to classical music, the Secundum would be like Mozart: young, full of creative charm, tangible and of subtle complexity. In comparison, a Vintage would be like Bach: intense, deep, complex and less accessible. Secundum 1999 was the first vintage of this Vintage to show the present and ripe tannins of the great vintages, which gives it its longevity, but at the same time allows early enjoyment due to its freshness. For Dirk Niepoort, "Secundum 1999 is an amazing wine that shows tannins but at the same time concentrated, rich fruit. A powerful vintage with very good aging potential." Offers itself as an accompaniment to "Queijo da Serra", Stilton or other cheeses with blue mold. Also goes well with egg-based desserts such as "Pão de Ló".
