Château Léoville Poyferré from Saint Julien is a real highlight. Many connoisseurs claim that the estate has the best soils in Saint Julien. After a period of weakness in the 70s, the estate is now back at the absolute top. Didier Cuvelier, the owner and manager of the estate, put enormous sums into the cellar, vineyards and equipment since 1979. Cuvelier hired Michel Rolland as oenologist. 80 of a total of 95 hectares are under vines. 58% of them are Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged in 80% new barriques. Rating: Parker 94/100
