Merlot has been vinified at the Winkler-Hermaden winery since 2003 and has since experienced an upswing to become the 2nd strongest red wine variety at the winery. The grapes for this wine come from various sites in Kapfenstein. After a maceration in steel tanks, the wine is aged for at least 1 year in large wooden barrels.
