2021 Riesling Roche Calcaire

This wine was made from all the small vineyards scattered around the village of Gueberschwihr (where the Humbrecht family is from). They are oriented from south to east, but they are all on an oolitic limestone soil that is quite rich and deep in some areas. Because they were planted in the 1960s and 1970s, they are now very consistent in style and ripeness. The 2021 vintage was particularly difficult in this area, so production was much lower than usual. This wine always has racy acidity, which ensures that fermentation lasts well over 12 months before the wine is dry. Additional time on the full lees in our traditional old oak barrels allows the wine to develop further before bottling.
